Fashion Parades and Horse Races

The Melbourne Cup is ‘the race that stops the nation’. It also happens to be a great excuse for a party.

The carnival of fun began with making horse-shoe-themed decorations, and a cup sweepstake, with Brighton resident Elaine and Reservoir team member Sita winning the biggest jackpots.

Later in the week, residents across Mayflower let their hair down and donned their best to celebrate in style.

At Mayflower Brighton, live performer Mandy serenaded residents, while they indulged in Champagne and a delicious high tea of hors d'oeuvres, including mini custard and fruit tarts, and beautiful ribbon sandwiches – all freshly prepared by our onsite chef.

Popular catchy tunes also had residents hitting the dance floor and kicking up their heels.

At Mayflower Reservoir, residents enjoyed a fancy hat fashion parade that had residents in hysterics, as they strutted the catwalk, blowing kisses and shaking their hips to win extra points from judges Executive Officer Deb and Clinical Services Team Leader Sunny.

Both occasions featured a fun and very competitive ‘horse race game’ that saw both giant and small pairs of dice decide the fate of the horses in the race.

The ‘horse race’ was played by giving each keen participant a horse on a stick, and then rolling a dice. Each resident then took a step according to the number they rolled. The winners were given prizes and cheered by onlookers.
