Enjoying a Taste of Italy on Festa della Repubblica

Residents at Mayflower Reservoir recently embraced the spirit of Italy, celebrating Festa della Repubblica – or Italian Republic Day – with a joyful afternoon filled with culture, music, and sweet treats.
Festa della Repubblica, held each year on the 2nd of June, marks the historic moment in 1946 when Italians voted to become a republic after many years of monarchy.
Today, it is a time for Italian communities worldwide to reflect on unity, resilience, and freedom — and to celebrate with song, dance, and tradition.
At Mayflower Reservoir, the festivities began with delicious Italian-style espresso coffees, creating the perfect start to the day. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, evoking memories of bustling Italian cafés and family gatherings.
Residents enjoyed an afternoon tea featuring traditional Italian crostoli biscuits and other Italian sweets, lovingly prepared and presented with care.

A Toe-Tapping Performance
A highlight of the day was the live performance by talented Italian singer Anthony, whose lively tunes had many tapping their feet and singing along. His heartfelt music transported residents to Italy’s sun-drenched piazzas, sparking joy and connection.
The celebration closed with a cheerful toast: “Salute!” - the Italian way of wishing good health and happiness, wrapping up a day rich in culture and community.
