On Friday the 7th of August, we are paying homage to the thousands of amazing aged care workers across Australia, and particularly our dedicated employees here at Mayflower.

Aged Care Employee Day is a national day to acknowledge the more than 360,000 dedicated people who care for and support around 1.3 million older Australians.

#ThanksforCaring is the theme, and we called out to our local community to honour aged care workers and volunteers and say “thanks for caring,” and boy did they respond.

We have received countless e-mails, phone calls, and Facebook posts from the Mayflower Community thanking our staff members who work so tirelessly to keep their loved ones safe and well.

We have showcased a sample of these kind and supportive words in a short video, which can be viewed below.

This year, we say a special “thank you” for their continuing devotion in protecting so many vulnerable people from the coronavirus pandemic.

Residents also got involved and were keen to take a photo and share messages to thank the staff they have grown to love as family.

Over the last week, and in the coming weeks, we have been sharing stories and photographs of some of our staff across our services and have included stories from many roles and walks in life.

Aged Care Employee Day is designed to celebrate each and every team member involved in the journey of caring for older Australians - from nurses, personal care workers and allied health professionals, home-care workers, administration staff, to chefs and cooks, environmental and laundry staff, lifestyle, gardeners, managers and volunteers. We salute you.

We encourage individuals, employers and community members to take part, in thanking our aged care heroes.
