Bringing Comfort to New Residents

Debbie has been busy again, this time making cushions and knee-warming blankets for residents moving into care.

Debbie’s stunning hand-made throws and cushions are designed to help ease one of life’s biggest transitions – the move into a care home.

Debbie wanted to make something special for residents moving into our homes, a token that would help them feel cared for, and in turn help ease them into their new home.

“Moving into a new home can be really hard for some of our residents. I wanted to make something we could give to them as a ‘welcome to Mayflower’ gift, to help bring some comfort, and hopefully help them to feel more at home,” says Debbie.

Residents have been helping Debbie with the project, by knitting some squares during our regular ‘Knit and Chat’ activity, which is currently being held on a more one-on-one basis.

Debbie generously makes the cushions from home, donating her time and yarn to make the gorgeous designs.

Each cushion and throw rug are unique, with their own knitted or crochet design. And there’s one for every sense of style.

Debbie continues to add to the growing collection each week, while knitting or crocheting in front of the telly at home - and is particularly proud of her round purple throw rug.

“It was the first time I tried to crochet a round rug, I’m quite happy with how it turned out,” she says. You can see a photo of the stunning purple throw rug below.

We would like to say, thank you to Debbie, for your incredible donation in hours, resources, funds and love – it will go a long way to help residents feel a sense of ‘home’ at Mayflower.
