It’s Time to Care About Aged Care

Published

On March 1, the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety released its Final Report.

The Report is seen as a watershed moment for our industry, providing a once in a generation opportunity to ensure every Australian can access first class aged care services.

The Report recommendations put older people at the centre of aged care. Mayflower welcomes the recommendations which fit well with our philosophy of delivering person centred care.

We are hopeful that they will deliver a sustainable aged care system with real funding that reflects the skills of our workforce, and the time that is needed to provide high quality care.

The Australian government is now considering the Report so that they can decide what recommendations will be implemented and when.

Six aged care peak bodies have come together as the Australian Aged Care Collaboration (AACC) to provide a united industry voice to government as it considers the Report.

Together, the AACC represents more than 1,000 organisations who deliver 70 per cent of aged care services to 1.3 million Australians, either in their own homes or in aged care settings.

The industry vision is to achieve a sustainable, world-class aged care system that enables all older Australians, and those who care for them, to be valued, have choice, and lead a meaningful life.

The Mayflower Community is encouraged to support this vision by signing the petition at CareAboutAgedCare.org.au.
